Leica M Mount 6-Bit Encoder kit (includes pens, encoder, instructions and table of codes). The coder clips on to un-encoded lenses and allows quick and easy coding of any (not limited to) M/LM, ZM and VM mount lens.

Once the lens is encoded, your Leica M and SL2/SL3 camera will know which focal length lens it has mounted and record that information in to your photos (meta data) which will then be displayed in Lightroom and any other software allowing you to filter your photos by lens and focal length.

Your Leica will also apply various adjustments including vignetting, chromatic aberration and barrel distortion for cleaner JPG images and less post processing for RAW files.

An added benefit for SL2 and SL3 users when used with the Leica M adapter, is setting the correct image stabilisation for the lens length.

Any other manufacturer lens can be coded to the closest Leica equivalent, generally improving the quality of your photos through the automatic corrections applied and the recording of meta data for lens length (28mm, 50mm etc).

For coding third party lenses, some experimentation may be required to find the closest and best match but all M mount lenses can be coded.

The kit includes a compatible white and black pen, along with the 6-bit coder, instructions, and table of lenses and what to code them to.

If you have a lens not listed in the table below, mounting your camera on a tripod and photographing a scene uncoded, then photographing the same scene with a few of the closest codes will allow you to compare and choose the best one for your particular setup. This should only take around 20 minutes for more than one lens due to it only taking around 20 seconds or so to clean a previous code off a lens and then re-coding it.

A few lenses can have a screw where a 1-bit should be, filling this in with white allows you to then either leave it as white or place a black mark on top of it for successful coding.

Note: The QR code on the encoder takes you to the instructions online which includes the table of lens codes. If you are out and about with the encoder and pen in your bag, this should hopefully help code your lens quickly.

For SL2 and SL3 users you will also get the benefit of correct stabilisation automatically. An excellent video by Jonathan Harris at Worldwide Camera Exchange explains in more detail here:

It works

Innovative product that simply works. Provides me with exif information for my Zeiss and Voitlander m-mount lenses. Used with the Leica m to l converter, so i can not determine if it works for other converters. Very happy with the product and it exceeded my expectations.

Very useful

Made it easy for me to get the right coding on a Voigtlander 35mm so that my Leica detected it automatically. If you want to do this, this is the way.

Some few lenses it does not work on, but otherwise fantastic

Leica Q3 / Q3 43 · Slim Skin Case

It's a fantastic product

When I purchased my X_E5, it was because it was light. But the grip was quite narrow. So I purchased smallrig grip but that added weight and no gripfor my thumb. I then found Akara labs and decided to take a chance on this product. I am so glad I did. It adds no weight but gives the perfect amount of grip both front and back. It is easy to put on and once ther, takes about 2 seconds to remove enough to get at the battery/SD card or tripod mount.

I did chat to the support team and they were very responsive.

Highly recommended.

These are truly ingenious skin cases for our precious Leica cameras. they are so slim and barely noticeable. much better than a leather case which is chunky and adds heft and bulk to the camera. With this, the original form factor remains as it should. The only thing is it needs to be slipped off when changing film which I do not find a hassle. However, if you are shooting an event and speed is paramount, then you might wish to think twice. Otherwise, for a casual shooter, it is great protection for your Leica. I do wish they would make one for the M7 though. I have 3 and all need protection.

Problem solved

Q3 Slim Case

Although there isn't an opening for SD card/Batt which I prefer.
This I must say is one of the most compact and lightweight minimal protection for the Q. With the build in grip which is so comfortable, this is really a good slim case for those who wants to just protect the camera for abit of extra protection from minor scratches and the base keeping it slim, compact and minimal enough. Nice Case.

Easy to use and it works

Used it for a non-encoded Voigtländer 28mm Ultron 2 lens on my Leica M11 Monochrom. Totally easy to use, and it works. It uses the Leica 28mm Summicron as the equivalent and I see no issues.

Nice Coding Kit!

I was able to 6-bit most of my Voigtländer lenses except the 40mm Nokton. I coded this lens as a 35mm instead. Love the ease of use and that everything was included to complete the coding. Would definitely recommend this product to others.

Nice product, exactly what I needed

I was looking for something to protect my Q3 while using it on a new project in caves, and this is the perfect solution. It's lightweight, simple, easy to attach and provides a nice sense of security with the added grip as well, while still maintaining the slim, minimal profile of the camera. The addition of the cutout to access the USB ports is also very welcome, and the aesthetic matches the Q3 perfectly. Great product, highly recommended.
