Leica 6-Bit Lens Code Finder
Find your lens code
Type your lens to get its code. The six positions are read clockwise from twelve o’clock on the bayonet flange. Mark the black positions and leave the rest bare.
Brand
Focal length
No match for that one yet.
Match the focal length first and the maximum aperture second, then switch to and pick the closest row. Put the camera on a tripod, shoot the same scene with two candidate codes and compare the corners wide open.
Every Leica profile the camera can be told to apply, in focal length order.
A filled mark is a 1 and is marked in black on the lens. An outlined mark is a 0 and is left bare.
Third-party suggestions are community sourced, so some experimentation may be needed to find the best match for your copy.
Screw-mount lenses are coded on the LTM-to-M adapter rather than the lens, so each one needs its own adapter to stay correctly identified.
